Work-life balance isn’t always easy to define. It’s different for each person. But as life gets busier, it’s important to define work-life balance for you to be able to find it. Here are some tips that can help you work hard and find time to enjoy life when you’re not working.
Stop Pushing for Perfectionism
First, perfectionism is hard to obtain. More importantly, perfectionism isn’t always required. Instead, strive for excellence. Do your best. Sometimes, the minutiae isn’t as important as you think it is. Stop overachieving and give your brain and body a rest.
Spend Some Time Meditating and Exercising
Exercise is often one of the first things that gets pushed out your schedule when you get busy. But exercise can be a big stress reliever that boosts your spirits and fuels your body. You’ll feel better and work harder after an exercise session. Meditation is self-care that provides some of the same benefits. Start with 5-minute sessions in the morning and build up to longer times.
Eliminate Time Sucks and Toxic People
Instead of spending hours wasting your time on Facebook, wouldn’t you rather spend quality time with friends and family? Identify the things that suck your time and find ways to stay on task. Secondly, get rid of the people who aren’t supporting you and fulfilling you. Focus on people who lift you up and activities that are rewarding. It’s the airplane oxygen metaphor. You have to take care of yourself first in order to take care of others.
Unplug
Turn off your phone. Enjoy the moment instead of taking videos or pictures. Don’t answer emails when you’re enjoying time with your family. Regain your sense of control over your time to have a good work-life balance.
