It seems as if most people are eternally busy these days. When you’re an entrepreneur or small business owner, you may never feel like you have time to relax. There’s always something to do. Here are some time management tips that might help you get a handle on your schedule.
Audit Your Time
For seven days, audit how you spend your time. Go by 30-minute or 1-hour segments. At the end of the week, tally up the figures. Learn where you spent the most time. The results might shock you. Are you spending your time on what’s most important?
Tackle Your Biggest Jobs in the Morning
By getting the most important tasks done in the morning, it will give you momentum to get through the rest of the day. If you really dread a project, just get it over with. You’ll feel motivated when you accomplish the job and you don’t have to procrastinate.
Set Goals Wisely
When you set goals, use the SMART acronym. Set specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely goals. Know where you should be focusing your time. Have metrics that will tell you when you’ve reached your goal. Instead of saying that you need to get more leads, set a goal of reaching 10 new prospective customers in a week. At the end of the time, check yourself. If you didn’t meet the number, was that you overreached or just didn’t work hard enough.
Eliminate Bad Habits
Check your habits. Are you binge-watching Netflix? Staying too long on Twitter? Maybe you go out with your friends and stay out too late, making it hard to get up in the morning. It’s okay to binge-watch your favorite show, but not at the expense of your work time. If you’re trying to achieve big goals, you need to eliminate the things that are keeping you from succeeding.
